Environmental Impact Assessments

Environmental Impact Assessments

Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) are conducted to ensure decision makers and project managers are aware of  potential positive or negative impacts on the environment that may result from proposed works.  An EIA is the process of identifying, predicting, evaluating and mitigating environmental effects of development proposals.  AAE Tech Services is experienced in conducting EIAs for aquatic and terrestrial environments.

REPRESENTATIVE STUDIES:

Pine Falls Fish Habitat Suitability Assessment.

Spring, summer, and fall fisheries assessments were conducted upstream and downstream of the Pine Falls dam on the Winnipeg River to determine potential impacts resulting from a rerunnering project, with four of six turbines scheduled to be upgraded.  Habitat Suitability Index was calculated for numerous fish species upstream and downstream of the dam under a variety of flow conditions.

Marais and Dinner Creek Environmental Impact Assessments.

Spring fish sampling was conducted to determine fish utilization of upstream reaches of the Marais and Dinner creeks to understand potential environmental impacts associated with proposed works to twin PTH 59.  A culvert assessment was implemented to assess whether barriers along the two waterways limited upstream fish usage.  Fisheries surveys were conducted via electrofishing.
